Single Sign-On (SSO) modes

MyDataHelps can participant in two types of Single Sign-On (SSO): one where MyDataHelps Designer trusts an enterprise identity provider to authenticate project staff, and one in which MyDataHelps acts as the identity provider for your custom portal or app.

Coordinator SSO

Use Case: MyDataHelps uses Enterprise SSO for project coordinators

MyDataHelps Designer can use external OpenId Connect identity providers (such as Microsoft’s Entra or Okta) to authenticate project staff. See Project Coordinator Single Sign-On for more details.

Coordinator SSO applies to all MyDataHelps Designer users associated with your organization: project coordinators, study developers, and other support staff. Participants are not impacted.

Participant SSO

Use Case: MyDataHelps acts as OIDC Identity Provider for custom apps

If you wish to provide a custom web portal or app for your participants, you can leverage their existing MyDataHelps account rather than designing your own separate authentication service. This is similar to the way that many websites support a “Log in with Google” or “Log in with Facebook” option.

MyDataHelps can function as an OpenId Connect (OIDC) identity provider. For technical details on how to utilize SSO in your custom app, see Participant Single Sign-On.
